German politicians targeted

January 7, 2019

The personal data of hundreds of German politicians appears to have been been posted online in what is a major data breach.

Sky News is reporting that a teenager's apartment as is being searched following the confirmation from the German government that personal data and documents belonging to hundreds of politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, had been published online.

The data appeared via a Twitter account which is no longer available, with the information being shared prior to Christmas.

The case follows other similar data breaches around the world, including those that affected the Presidential elections in the USA in 2016.
